On International Women’s Day, March 8, of 2021, the Azorean Emigrants Association (AEA), based in the city of Ribeira Grande, honored Rosa Maria Neves Simas for the 20th anniversary of the Conference Women in the Azores and the Immigrant Communities, which took place in 2001 at the University of the Azores. Coordinated by Rui Faria, AEA President, the online conference opened with José Andrade, Regional Director for Immigrant Communities, and Alexandre Gaudêncio, Mayor of Ribeira Grande. The panels included Manuela Aguiar, former Secretary of State for Immigrant Communities, and Alzira Silva, former Regional Director for Immigrant Communities, along with representatives of the Portuguese communities from the East Coast and California, in the USA, and from Canada.
