Azorean Music and Folclore in the USA
Back

(1978) “Folclore Musical Açoriano nos EUA” in Atas 1º Congresso de Comunidades Açorianas, Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island: Office of Emigration and Azorean Immigrant Communities, 1st Regional Government of the Azores, 117-120

As I noted in the talk I presented in Angra do Heroísmo at the 1st Conference of Azorean Immigrant Communities, which was published in the Proceedings in 1978, the folklore of a people accompanies those people wherever they may go. Growing up in the midst of the Portuguese immigrant communities of California, I was charmed by the rhythms of Azorean music and dance. I organized various folk groups for children, teens and young adults, and leda group of musicians to Washington DC to participate in the American Folklife Festival organized by the Smithsonian Institute.
