Given that the dynamic of equal rights and responsibilities affects all aspects of society, the commemoration of 2007 European Year for Equality was organized, in the Island of São Miguel, by the Women’s Association UMAR-Açores, in partnership with a variety of entities, monthly, during the 12 months of 2007. The program was the following:

February – The Feminization of Higher Learning – University of the Azores
March – Women in Art – Carlos Machado Museum
April – Women and Music – Music Conservatory of Ponta Delgada
May – Women and Religion – Ponta Delgada City Hall
June – Women and Migration – AIPA (Immigrants’ Association of the Azores)
July – Children, Youth and Equality – New Day Association and Regional Youth Department
August – Diversity and Equality – Regional Youth Department of the Azores
September – Women, the Body and Health – Ponta Delgada School of Nursing
October – Civic Responsibility and Aging – HDES and ASSM (São Miguel Seniors’ Association)
November – No to Gender Violence in Dance – Milagres Paz Ballet and Micaelense Theater
December – 2007 Year Finale and Celebrating 15 Years of UMAR-Açores – Micaelense Theater
Throughout 2007, we partnered with Açoriano Oriental newspaper and created the monthly page Nas Asas da Igualdade (On the Wings of Equality). Now, it’s been over 15 years!
